I was at the AGM of the BFCC on Sunday past and a Mandate from Leicestershire BFCC was read out for discussion.

My feelings are yes at some point we will have to look at alternatives to Oat Husks for the bottom of our show cages with this thought I would like to offer a alternative to Oat Husks.
I would like to see Sand Sheets used to cover the bottom of the show cages,
the reason is all Pet Shops and Suppliers have them in Stock for the pet bird owner Packets of these sheets are 13.5"*7.75" or 55cm * 31cm these can be cut down to fit the Show Cage 10"* 4" and with 6 sheets to each packet the total of 30 Show Cage bottoms can be covered for the max price of £3.00.
With using these sheets the clearing up at the end of the show is greatly reduced and there is no way that the Birds cannot get at the seed
I hope this will start to have ordinary fanciers look at alternatives and perhaps the Type of Mandate from North Wales would not have to be put forward
